If you are coming into Denton, Texas, by car, FYI – parking is at a premium. You might consider hopping the Dallas Area Rapid Transit commuter line – transfer to – yes – the “A” Train.

Why does the “A” Train sound so familiar? After the line opened recently, most jazz aficionados automatically began humming the Billy Strayhorn standard, “Take the A Train.” For more about “Sweet Pea” Strayhorn, click on http://www.pbs.org/jazz/biography/artist_id_strayhorn_billy.htm

  • Don’t forget to bring your A-Train ticket stub to the Main Stage Souvenir Booth to get your FREE Festival Favorite’s CD!

Take the A Train to the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival this weekend.

Of course, a lot of musicians and bands have “Take the A Train” in their repetoire, but certainly the song takes on a deeper meaning for Dentonites these days.

Following the crowd through Denton’s Quakertown Park is a colorful experience – the people, music, kids playing and Jazz music wafting from the Main Stage and the UNT Jazz Showcase Stage … and other stages off and on throughout the three-day annual festival.

Denton’s Arts & Jazz Festival is produced by the Denton Festival Foundation in cooperation with the City of Denton, Denton Parks and Recreation, Dallas/Forth Worth American Federation of Musicians, Local 72-147, and many individual and corporate sponsors. Founded in 1980, Denton Festival Foundation produced Spring Fling, its first arts festival April 19-20, 1980.

In 1990 Spring Fling merged with another Denton festival, JazzFest, to become Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. It is the largest arts event held in Denton County, and the DFF is increasingly recognized nationally and state-wide for its efforts.
