Sunday @ Mellow Mushroom, Sweetwater G&T

May 12, 2012

By Kathy Edwards McFarland

Sunday, May 13: Beautiful spring weather brings outside venues to mind …

  • The latest is Marshall Smith and Brazz playing on the patio at Mellow Mushroom, 217 E. Hickory St., Denton. The acoustic brass quintet will be playing Jazz (from Parker to Brubeck) to a “mellow” Sunday afternoon crowd. Sunday will be the first time the original five band members play together – at the same time,  after a very long time, according to Marshall.
Brazz members are: Marshall Smith, trumpet; Jordan Gheen, trumpet; Catherine Gilstrap, French horn; Paul Burk, tenor trombone and AG Robeson, tuba and fluglehorn.
  • Mellow Mushroom management has asked Brazz to play the patio every Sunday in May, Noon-3 p.m. Weather Permitting.
  • Marshall has appreciated the work of recent Brazz  subs – Pete Clagget, trumpet; Luke Brimhall, tenor trombone and Nick Wlodarczyk, trombone.

Another outdoor venue, well, sort of outdoor, is the Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St., Denton, patio – Sunday, 7-9 p.m.

  • Brasuka!

Brasuka! is back with a new band member – vocalist and percussionist Jacqueline Sotelo.
This Brazilian Samba band – specializing in the rich and rhythmic sounds of Sergio Mendes, will get you moving!
Brasuka! features Rosana Eckert (vox/perc), Jacqueline Sotelo (vox/perc), Ricardo Bozas (vox/perc), Brian Piper (piano/vox), Brian Warthen (bass), Jose Aponte(drumset/vox).
