Trumpeter Frank Reed, gone but not forgotten

Frank Reed, 1983 graduate of University of North Texas Jazz Studies, passed away after suffering a heart attack early Sunday morning,

Oct. 7. Many will miss Mr. Reed. He was an exceptional brass teacher at North Garland High School and as a private brass instructor, teaching the method of Don Jacoby. Frank also performed with many bands and talented musicians. Numerous friends and colleagues posted fond memories on his Facebook page, many quoted his well-known motto: “Try Not To Suck.”

  • Frank’s memorial service was Friday, Oct. 12, in Garland, TX.

Friend and fellow band member, Jeff Taylor, announced today, a one-of-kind gathering –

“It’s On! The Frank Reed Tribute Concert will be held at Arthur’s (http://www.arthursdallas.com/) in Addison,TX, Sunday, Oct. 28th (the last Sunday of the month,) 5-11 p.m.
This will be an Epic Hang! Please pass this info around … You Cannot Miss This! Trumpet players from all over the Country will be there A Brass Summit in Frank’s Name! Dallas Brass and Electric will reunite for a tribute set, as well as a set by my New Band … The Horns from Hell. (Frank was a charter-member of the original HFH and would have been in this band). A fitting tribute to a Great Dude! See you there!”

You may make a donation to the Frank Reed Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide trumpet lessons to students in need of financial assistance at North Garland High School, Austin Academy, and Jackson Middle School.
