Running way late with this post (computer issues), but had to post – not just for the incredible schedule of Live Jazz, but because University of North Texas Jazz Studies Prof Fred Hamilton shared this on Facebook re: The Aristocrats performance last night –

“Noel Johnston, Pete Weise, Justin Schenk, Scott Neary, David and Fran Adams, Katy, and 175 others were witness to a great set by Guthrie Govan and the Aristocrats at Dan’s Silverleaf. Denton is a great town and the music that happens here is astounding. I am blessed to live here and teach at North Texas.” Fred Hamilton

Wednesday, August 21:

“In the 1960’s, the music of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass could be heard on the top radio shows of the time, as well as television and the big screen. The music of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass is quirky, retro, hip, sometimes cheesy, but always groovy!”

The Aristocrats: Instrumental Rock/Fusion’s “Rowdy New Democracy” The word “supergroup” is tossed around a lot in instrumental music circles, the result of a seemingly endless supply of efforts to package together individual virtuoso players and make a band out of them. But every once in a while, the group part of that shopworn term becomes authentic and real. Such is the case with The Aristocrats – guitarist Guthrie Govan, bassist Bryan Beller, and drummer Marco Minnemann – who defiantly and joyously blow the supergroup stereotype to bits, thrilling audiences and fans around the world in the process with a preternatural band chemistry that equals exponentially more than the sum of its parts.
