The Denton Holiday Lighting on the Courthouse Square is the pinnacle of music-related activities this week. But like Jell-o, there’s always room for snow-globe-2-clipartJazz in Denton.

Holiday Lighting Festival Inclement Weather Plan: In the event of inclement weather on Friday, the Holiday Lighting Committee has decided to follow the County, Universities and School Districts with regard to closings. If offices and schools are closed on Friday, the event will be canceled. We will keep you updated as the weather moves in. Thank you!

Wednesday, December 4:

  • Jeffry Eckels presents: Jazz at the White House (corner of Scripture and Bryan), 8-10:30 p.m. – No cover “A vocal Jazz showcase, this week, featuring Miss Hale Baskin and her band! If you haven’t heard Hale before, you’re in for a treat!”HaleBaskin
  • Bone Doggie Open Mic at II Charlies Bar & Grill, 809 Sunset, 9 p.m.- 1:30 a.m. (At least 4 songs)

Thursday, December 5:

  • Jazz by the Keith Karns Quintet, Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 6 p.m., followed by Open Mic at 8 p.m. – BOTH FREE

Friday, December 6:

  • Denton Holiday Lighting on the Courthouse Square begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Denton Community Band. After that, there are various performances on the lawn, in the street, in the Wells Fargo lobby, in the Commissioner’s Courtroom, in UNT on the Square, in the Bayless-Selby House, and in the African American Museum. Once again the festival will be hosting a toy drive. Toys gathered will be distributed to families needing assistance during the Christmas season in Denton County. A drive-through toy drop-off will be at the southeast corner of the square.

  • Mariachi Quetzal performs at La Milpa Mexican Restaurant, 820 S. I-35E, at 8 p.m. – no cover
  • MilkDrive brings their Jazz-Grass to Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, at 9 p.m. – $12

  • Son Slim’s Gems at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 6 p.m., followed by Ellie Meyer & Richard Gilbert at 8 p.m. – Both free

Saturday, December 7:

  • Isabel Crespo & Elliot Liebman, two of Many Voices, at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 6 p.m. – Free

  • UNT Sounds of the Holidays featuring the Jazz Singers and the One O’Clock Lab Band in Winspear Hall at 8 p.m. – $3

Sunday, December 8:

  • Foo McBubba, the Big Band of First United Methodist Church – Denton plays Sweetwater Grill & Tavern, 115 S. Elm St. In its 5th year, this is one righteous group of Jazz musicians (21 members strong).
  • Bone Doggie’s Open Mic at the Abbey Underground, 101 W. Walnut St., 9 p.m. – FREE

Monday, December 9:

  • Pete Weise and Friends play Late Night Jazz at the Greenhouse Restaurant, 600 N. Locust, 10 p.m. -12 a.m.

Tuesday, December 10:

  • Andy LaViolette Trio at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 5 p.m. Free
