July Denton Jazz jumps and jives

Red, hot and blue Live Jazz fills the air this week, beginning tonight with Ginny Mac returning to the White House spotlight, as Jeffry Eckels presents “Jazz at the White House (on the corner of Scripture and Bryan in beautiful Denton, Texas), A Vocal Showcase,”  8-10:30 p.m.

“You won’t want to miss accordionist and vocalist Ginny Mac. She’s got everything: talent, looks and a personality that goes forever,” said bassist Eckels. “Come share a summer evening of fun and music! Weather permitting we’ll be out back in the beautiful garden! Feel free to share this with your friends.”

Thursday, July 3:

  • Denton Main Street Association presents Twilight Tunes on the Courthouse Square, 100 Hickory Street, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. This week’s music will be provided by Bone Doggie & the Hickory Street Hellraisers (Americana/blues) – FREE

  • Michael Kokkinakis (classical guitar) at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 6 p.m., followed by Open Mic at 8 p.m. – BOTH FREE

Friday, July 4:

  • Denton Institute of Phrenology Marching Band forms in the Wells Fargo Parking lot, just off the square, at 7:30 a.m. to get ready for the

    alway awesome Jul 4th parade at 9 a.m. All are invited to play or be a part of the Precision Drill Team, The Triomphenettes. The Drill Team usually carries the banners as well as cordless drills with the Stars and Stripes attached.

  • Concert on the Square, 100 Hickory Street, at 10 a.m., following the parade. This week’s featured group is JR Byrd (pop/funk) – FREE
  • Western Swing Dance Party with Bonnie & Nick Norris begins after the parade, at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, 10 a.m. – FREE
  • Live Local Jazz at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 6 p.m. – FREEMariachi Quetzal performs during the dinner hour at La Milpa Mexican Restaurant, 820 S. I-35E, at 8 p.m. – no cover
  • Denton Community Theatre presents Buddy (the Buddy Holly Story) at the Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory, at 7:30 p.m. – performances also on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. – reservations: (940) 382-1915

Saturday, July 5:

  • Live Local Jazz at Banter Bistro, 219 W. Oak St., at 6 p.m., followed by Denton Rock – Classic Rock Band (Scott Sackett, Deborah Mouser, Dr. Greg Naugher, Peggy Morrison, Claire Hebert, Austin Brazille & Jack B. Walker) at 8 p.m. – BOTH FREE
  • Indie band Little Tybee, from Atlanta, plays Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial, at 9 p.m. – $10

Monday, July 7:

  • Vintage Jazz Society does not meet today.Late Night Live Jazz with Addison Frei and Friends at the Greenhouse Restaurant, 600 Locust, 10 p.m. – 12 a.m. – no cover
