Live Jazz in Denton getting busier

As the school year begins, live music of all genres ramps up. Hold on to your seat and stick around for some of the best live performances without big city overhead or exorbitant cover charges. Keep looking to Denton Jazz Chronicles for fun and so fine Live Jazz performances and events.

  • Oui Bis – Yes Again! plays First Friday at a Creative Art Studio, 227 W. Oak Street, Ste 101, 8 p.m.

First Friday music is kicks off this month by local singer songwriter Rachel Yeatts. Her music has been described as a mix between First Friday Denton Sept 5 2014 smallerHank Williams and Emmylou Harris and she has recently released her first CD, Paradise Mountain, a compilation of original songs written and sung by Ms. Yeatts. Following Rachel, Oui Bis, a local group of musicians comprised of Steve Prouty, Leon Peek, George Merritt, Maristella Feustle, Allison Cami and Steve Horn, takes the stage. This group features a variety of styles of music including the American Old Time tradition as well as Irish, Scottish and English folk dance music. Their performance will include a mix of Old Standards (that is to say jazz from the early to mid 20th century), Latin American jazz tunes of various sorts, Balkan and Slavic tunes and a handful of original tunes that might lean heavily on all of the above.

Saturday, September 6:
